Designer of the Week: Helen Hoppock Lubetkin

...of Helena de Natalio handbags.

Carrie in charcoal

This week's designer of the week is Helen Hoppock Lubetkin who is the mastermind behind the Helena de Natalio handbag collection. Helen, who grew up in the San Francisco Bay area, found her inspiration as a designer when she joined the Peace Corps in 2003, and moved to Natalio, Paraguay, where she learned to sew after befriending the town's seamstress.

Helen describes herself as "a free spirit, inspired by travel, friends, family and the world around me." The bright colors, soft leather, and the ties to South American culture make this handbag collection distinct and desirable.

When asked to describe her latest collection, this is what Helen had to say: "The latest collection is a reflection of what caught my attention most. First and foremost, I believe that in the economy today, my line must stand out, and give the customers a a way to escape reality and give them something, that quite simply makes them smile. The latest line uses bright colors, fun and distinct ethnic prints, and new textures."

Don't you just want to grab the dulce clutch on your way out the door to dinner or throw the Carrie over your shoulder and head to the shops?
